Arsenal Set for Signing; Finally Adding that Killer Instinct

Well, I’m still waiting for that to happen anyways.
It looks as though, Melo is about to put on the black and white of Juventus, while Arsene Wenger was unwilling to part with both Emmanuel Eboue and a significant amount of money. To be honest, I agree that Fiorentina were overpricing Melo, a man who looks a little too short tempered to be heavily relied on. But as you saw in my previous post, Arsenal need that killer defensive midfielder to cut out attacks in the early stages as well as turn defense into attack in one swift move. We can all agree that seeing Samir Nasri in the defensive role last season was a bit of a low point. Seeing such a creative, attacking midfielder subjected to the holding role was hard to watch. All of Arsenal’s current candidates for the position aren’t without their flaws. Denilson’s too small. Diaby’s too attacking-minded/ injury prone. Song has too little experience in the big games.
When I read the first Melo to Arsenal rumors, I was excited. But it was very premature excitement. As we all know, transfers can catch a snag at any point, especially with Wenger’s shrewd negotiating style. I thought it was distinctly possible but was not under the illusion that anything was imminent. Especially with the Confederations Cup going on. Now there are talks that Arsenal are close to snatching Blaise Matuidi, a French 22 year old who is plying his trade with St. Etienne. I hate to be the pessimist in the room, but Matuidi is exactly what Arsenal don’t need. A young defensive midfielder who should be great in 2-3 years is not something that satiates me as an Arsenal supporter. Someone who I think Arsenal should acquire is Thomas Hitzlsperger from Stuttgart. He has the premiership experience, from when he played with Villa, and he is old enough, almost 27, where he can establish a cutting edge immediately while being free enough of a player so that he wont disrupt the flow within the team.
I have confidence in Arsene the Great, because any other manager with his budget would see Arsenal battling it out at mid table with the Spuds. But Wenger has us competing and while we all strive for more, its about slow improvements from here on out. Vermaelen, even at only 23, will bring a mature leadership to the back four that Gallas refused to provide. And with RvP, Eduardo, Arshavin and Nikki B (ADE or not), our strikeforce is one of the best in the world. All we need is that one plug. Here’s to it not being another U-21 international…

Have you ever even seen Matuidi play? He’s got over 100 Ligue 1 games under his belt despite being 22. The boy is perfect for Arsenal. Melo probably would have been better but Matuidi is still a superb player. He has played more league games than Melo, who has spent the majority of his career in Brazil. 6 clubs in 7 years is not promising. Melo has also only played 10 games for Brazil, majority being Friendlies and Confederation Cup games. Matuidi is much more refined.
And you do know that Metzelder plays CB not DM? And that he never played for Aston Villa – that was Tomas Hitzplerger. And do you also know that he’s shit? I don’t suppose you do because I doubt you watch the La Liga. We have Naldo coming in anyway, who is a much better player and even if he wasn’t we’re covered at CB.

Felipe Melo has little big-game experience. He hasn’t played World Cups. Hasn’t been involved in the Copa America. Hasn’t played Champions League knockout stages. Hasn’t been involved in a title race.

I still have a faith we can bring ever baniga , he got a lot of experience from boca and have exactly what we need from a DM .
i think melo should be the right man for arsenal he will bring a more bull dog style in the midfield and we do need velesco the both got experience

Mattuidi, is too small 5ft 9….. and what is the point of buying him? Not another one for the future, he plays in a small time league, Alex Song is a much better prospect. Arsenal needs Alex Song in a few years, now. Who that will be will be an interesting decision possibly Mahamoud Diarra from Real??
Anyway… will be interesting to see what happens.

Matuidi is 1,75 and 70 kg. Is he really the steel we need in midfield? I don’t believe so, why replace Denilson and Song, both bigger and heavier and with plenty of PL experiance, with such a tiny a lightweight player? AW is much smarter than that.
if they cant get melo or velesco then we should head for hitzsperger he would be the ball winner in the midfield and he can also score goals
melo too expensive, hitzsperge not good enough,matuidi would be a good squad player
we should get either veloso or m.diarra both rated in the 10m price range, both have champ league experience.
Vieira was younger than Matuidi when he first played for us, so I’m not worried about the age. I’m not saying Matuidi will be better, or even as good, as Vieira, but give the guy a chance.
We need a very experienced DCM and a younger top prospect for the experienced star to nurture (should have kept Gilberto & L Diarra rather than relysing on Flam signing a new deal)
A perfect example would be Banega (young) and Senna (experience) this would be ideal – we can all dream – but this wont happen.
Veloso would be good or Inler.
Maybe we will sign Matuidi & M Diarra?????
ooh id love to see Senna in Arsenal. Maybe a two-three year deal in wich he can provide a worldclass dmc game and school our youngsters with his huge amount of knowledge.
If we get one more french player i will flip my lid. We have enough of the buggers and Matuidi is crap. Get someone like inler or veloso. already pissed off he didn’t get his fingers out of his arse and sign melo, which could easily have been done, even though eboue thought too much of himself to go to an “inferior” club.

I feel that matuidi is too small to play in the epl. yes I know there are some guys under 170cm plying their trade in the epl.For md defensive you need guys over 180cm.
I’m afraid if matuidi is signed and fail to sparkle it will be the same as signing kids.Then it will be time wasted and another season in transition .
Minf you if Arsenal fail to compete for honours dont be surprised to big gaps in the terrace s of the ES.As it is fans pay the highest prices and deserve better.
Get behind the club instead of whinging. We are in good shape and in the best hands.
With Rosicky and Eduardo coming back, the improvement in Gibbs and Vermaelen signing our squad is looking good. I’m sure Arsene has got his eye on a CM which will complete a great line up.

I feel we should make a move for Martin Caceres. Whether for centre back or defensive midfield (which he can play), he is the type we are looking for. Technical, tough, strong in the air and always up for the battle.
He could not break in to the first team on a regular basis at Barcelona in his first season and they are looking to let him go, but the talent is there and he would be well suited to the premier league.
What do you think, you aliens!
kolo Toure , start him off pre season as the holding midfielder , he can win the ball, good in the air, has pace , only needs to learn to play short most of the time, , he could easily play there, save the club a chunk , keep our serious money for srikers , look at FERGIE never baulks at spending big for strikers , you have 4 major strikers you are gonna win things. UTD have always been able to take two top strikers off and replace them with two more world class strikers , so buy the boys that can can find the net !!!!

All of your info and opinion is based on national press coverage which we all know never gives us the slightest shred of evidence on who Wenger’s tracking. This is such an awful article. I couldn’t get past the 1st paragraph.

I think the boss knows what he is doing and he knows what we Arsenal fans want. I don’t think we should bothered with who he signs. One thing we should is that Arsenal are working on a very tight budget.
