Whether for centre back or defensive midfield (which he can play), he is the type we are looking for. Technical, tough, strong in the air and always up for the battle. He could not break in to the first team on a regular basis at Barcelona in his first season and they are looking to let him go, but the talent is there and he would be well suited to the premier league.
