beckham is seeing out is contract with the galaxy. he will play the remainder of season and then he'll probably go back to milan on loan. why would the galaxy head office accept this? because of the fee milan pays AND the fee beckham pays out of his own pocket. i agree this is a mess - the crux of it lies in the fact that the world cup is coming up and becks has a great shot of making it IF he plays at the top level. the thing was, he was unceremoniously dropped from the team/wasnt going to be picked for madrid when he took the contract - now everyone realizes how dumb mclaren was and the FA and capello want beckham back. as a person who puts loyalty for his country first and foremost, this is the most important thing for him - the world cup. the england team. this is their last shot to win it for a while. but at the same time, i def see why the galaxy fans are upset.

i wouldnt quite label his foray (ahem) into the mls a waste of time... look how much publicity he's gotten since he's been there - helps the league whether good or bad. the attendance figures of his games especially are much higher than the average pre-beckham. and im sure the galaxy are enjoying all the shirt sales.

and beckham, even in his prime was never a player who could: beat his man (for skill OR pace), or score a great amount of goals from midfield. (even less so now because he typically reverts to the central role and falls back as he's lost pace in his old age). instead he passes the ball to others. he's the best there is. look at his first home game back - he created BOTH goals by doing this. and you could barely hear the boos after his second assist. this why the label of 'savior' or wtv and the gargantuan expectations the american press and fans had was ridiculous. he's not (never has been) a player to change games on his own.

on a final note of this rather long-winded comment, id just like to say what an extraordinary thing for a 34 year old to be able to do. fly thousands of miles to play for milan la and most importantly, England. the fact that milan (who have a midfield FULL of world cup WINNERS) are continuing to extend his loan is quite amazing. the galaxy fans should understand what a talent they have on their hands - for the rest of the season. i think people who label becks as overrated or overhyped or whatever else should also take note of this and then rethink their absurd claims... the man is a legend. simply put. when he makes the WC, he'll break shilton's cap record and become englands most capped player ever (he is ALREADy the most capped outfield player).

i just felt somebody has to stand up for him. the media just loves a scapegoat. but he'll prove people wrong like he always does. as i explain in my article linked on the previous beckham post on this site.

i'll get off my knees now.
