De Rossi – New Arsenal Signing; Defender Swap in the Works

Hello all, on a somewhat bizarre note, I was on the Arsenal official website this morning looking at the fixture list for this coming season. Anyways I headed over to the squad list, and Roma’s Daniele De Rossi was listed as a ‘midfielder’ carrying the number 13, that has been free since Alex Hleb’s mid-life crisis. After making sure I didn’t miss anything newsworthy (like Arsenal solving all of their midfield issues at once), I went back to take a screenshot of the gaffe to put it up here, but the error had already been seen too. Either this was an Arsenal.com employee jumping the gun (a man can dream) or a computer savvy supporter remains to be seen, either way, whether you knew it or not, there were a solid 15-30 minutes this morning where all was good, our slight midfield had a backbone; a dirty ballwinner was backing up Cesc and setting up the attack. But alas every dream comes to an end.

Secondly, Wenger has come out and essentially said that the £15m Toure transfer to Manchester City is hours away from completion. The Daily Mail claims that Wenger is going to send that money straight across London to lure Brede Hangeland, the 6 foot 5 Norweigen central defender, away from Fulham. The Cottagers certainly want to hang on to their rock, but Roy Hodgson has a contingency plan should they take the money. The Fulham manager has reportedly inquired about the services of Hull defender, Michael Turner to replace Hangeland.

So in essence, Arsenal lost the last player they had left who was on the invincibles’ side as well as a world class defensive midfielder in the same day. And yet I’m still remarkably upbeat. Oh to be an Arsenal supporter…

Very nice spot mate, I checked it on wikpedia as well, this is interesting hmmm

omg de rossi is it trough :O:O:O:O ????

as most people no any one can change a Wikipedia page

What baffles me about this purported Kolo deal is that if he is considered not good enough for us, what on earth is Silvestre still doing at the club. Even at his best, he was no where near Kolo how about when he is way past his prime. Oh to be an Arsenal supporter indeed!

haha well i checked it again and its been removed

Would love to have De Rossi and hangeland playing for Arsenal

Ah they changed it back to Roma

now its spurs looool what a joke report

Hangeland looks good in a defence that plays deep. Arsenal play high up the pitch and he’d be totally exposed for pace. Don’t think he’d suit our style of play.

lol someone changed his current club to “spurslol” and “bengali fc” at the bottom of the page

As others have said, why didn’t you take the screen-shot right away?

Also, find it hard to believe that you happened to look at the squad list right at the time De Rossi’s name was there as well.

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, because he’d be a great signing, but that’s tough to do.

Did you not know that ANYONE CAN PUBLISH ANYTHING THEY WANT ON WIKIPEDIA

Hey, i just wrote on Wikipedia that Arsenal have signed Kaka… it must be true because it’s on wikipedia!

Steve speaks the truth as I also spotted it but I was to busy cracking one off in anticipation to take a screen shot. Though Steve was not as eagle eyed as myself ,I also spotted the names Mexes & Vucinic.

Triple signing for the win!

:)

So let me get this right – people are so desparate for news now that IF an article or some info appears on wikipedia it MUST be true… f*ck me you lot are gullible. Wiki for the uninitiated is a info feed – as long as you sign up you can make changes and add things. Just because it’s on wiki doesn’t mean its true – I’m sure some other ‘official’ sites (Sky, BBC, etc – not The Arsenal one though as they take about a month to announce anything) would confirm a signing before wiki had it.

Blackstock I make you right – add on there that we have signed Huntelaar, Hangeland and re-signed Henry – it must be true – I saw if on f*cking wiki!

nothing to trust until we heard from wenger

wenger is joking wit our hearts.he should stop kidding and start getting experience.

OMFG somehow deRossi has come out and told everyone his real name on wikipedia… what are the chances ;)

steve’s not lying actually. I too was wandering through the arsenal site this morning and saw it. Thought it was a mistake cause I hadn’t heard anything, but it was definitely there. I know you’re all gonna get on my case for not taking a screenshot, but I’m not a blogger so I had no need. Trust me, it was there, for a few minutes at least.

So the author saw De Rossi’s name on the official website and on Wiki and reckons something fishy is going on – I would bet anyone else who saw that wouuld be intrigued.

I think the amount of misguided aggression shown towards him really shows how desperate we fans are for new blood in the team. So much so that we are turning on our own just because a rumour turns out to be false – or is it? Just relax or do something more interesting rather than take out your frustrations on some blogger.

As an aside, anyone who takes what a blogger writes at face value to begin with needs their head checked out. To get wound up over it is frankly pathetic.

Many of you are claiming this story to be a lie because the website takes a while to upload names to the squad list. Would the possibility of a hacker not come in to your thought process?

Its happened before: http://www.offthepost.info/2009/06/man-utd-add-iker-casillas-to-their-squad-list/

To assume that I’m lying is a bit much.

[...] Well that is no great source as anyone with an account can alter Wikipedia.  On the same day downswining.com reported that di Rossi had appeared as an Arsenal player with the number 13 shirt.  A similar [...]
